Our story, our passion

My passion for fishing began in the UK around the mid-60s where I was fortunate to live in a little spot on the outskirts of Widnes called Clincton Wood, an area with numerous ponds and waterways at my doorstep where I spent much of my time fishing, learning and soaking up as much information and secrets as I could from the seasoned veterans. 

When I arrived in New Zealand in 1973, I was soon taken out on a night mission chasing sharks (Rig) to Birdlings Flat where we unleashed the raft, a totally new and exciting experience for me and that as they say was that, the hook was set and I was off on new adventures.

I soon began exploring this amazing country and the many opportunities it has to offer for the curious angler. Over the years I've fished both salt and fresh from Stewart Island to the Bay of Islands and beyond, east coast, west coast, and many places in between, from whitebait to big game.

I thought that I'd tried most styles of fishing available here in New Zealand over the years until the drone came along, a game changer for shore-based anglers young or old and after seeing one in action I knew I had to have one. After some time looking at the various models, their features and prices I settled on the Aeroo Pro.

While waiting for its arrival I began visiting tackle stores, joining drone fishing groups and asking questions in order to learn and see what was available out there and what people were using in the way of rigs, hooks, traces, set ups etc and soon began making and testing my own.

After a fair amount of field testing I realized that for me keeping it simple while using quality components were key factors to setting up and achieving a successful day out.

The next step along the journey happened by chance when I was talking to a friend and tackle wholesaler who suggested that I should "get out there and sell them".

That was it, the seed was sown. With retirement around the corner and a need to keep myself occupied the idea of what has become "DROPPIN BAITS" was conceived. The next step was to reach out to friends, contacts and people I've fished with over the years to source what I would need, this took time but I now have what I believe to be the best components available to produce the products you will see here.
